  • Mucus – there’s a reason Eucalyptus is found in congestion relief products like Vicks! Try this DIY to relieve and help clear congestion.
  • Some bronchitis symptoms
  • Sinusitis (swelling and general irritation of the sinuses)

It’s a lot easier to deal with an illness if you soothe symptoms as your body fights off infection. Eucalyptus Essential Oil is an amazing natural remedy for a variety of persistent cold, cough, and flu symptoms.

Bug Repellent

Creepy crawlers can’t stand being around Eucalyptus Essential Oil, hence why it’s known as a naturally effective bug repellent! Especially during the warm summer months, mosquitoes, and other common insects that frequently buzz around you can carry terrible diseases that are much worse than an occasional bug bite. That’s why it is super important to keep you, and your loved ones protected during your daily walk or family camping trip (also using SPF of course.)

Check out our easy to follow DIY insect repellent recipe below!

Eucalyptus oil’s insect-repelling properties aren’t a secret! It has been used against mites and ticks since 1948. You can trust it to protect you and your family from insects!

Disinfecting At-Home

Part of Eucalyptus Essential Oil’s power is due to its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, proving to be very effective at killing dangerous microbes and bacteria. With viral infections being a serious concern these days, Eucalyptus is very useful for keeping sickness-causing bacteria at bay.

Try mixing a few drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil into your home cleaners to boost its antimicrobial strength, while adding a fresh fragrance. If you’re up for a DIY project, here’s how to make your own DIY cleaner!

Itchy Scalp

Soothe an itchy scalp caused by bacteria and fungi that's commonly found in dandruff. Add a few drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil into your shampoo for an itch-free hair routine!

Oral Hygiene

We hear so much about boosting your beauty routine, but what about your oral hygiene? A hack we love to naturally whiten and fight bacteria is adding a drop of Eucalyptus Essential Oil to coconut oil, and swishing in your mouth (be sure not to swallow this!) It helps prevent the buildup of plaque on the teeth and gums while preventing bad breath.

Pain Relief

The benefits of Eucalyptus Essential Oil go beyond to also provide pain relief! The analgesic effects, often demonstrated in over-the-counter topical creams and lotions, use Eucalyptus Essential Oil in their formulas. These are usually used to treat mild to moderate muscle and joint pain from arthritis, backaches, bruising, sprains, and more.

Ready to DIY pain relief? Add 1-2 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil to a carrier oil like Castor Oil, and massage into any sore muscles or joints on your body with large strokes. Since the Eucalyptus Essential Oil is only applied topically, it shouldn’t impact over-the-counter pain relief pills you may be using.

Immune Boost

Eucalyptus’ anti-inflammatory properties are a home advantage when you’re trying to stay safe. According to BMC Immunology, eucalyptus oil can stimulate your immune system to be more responsive to potential pathogens or viral threats.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil can help your immune system fight issues like:

  • Cold sores
  • Diabetes
  • Fever
  • Ulcers
  • Blocked nose/cold symptoms
  • The flu

Try Eucalyptus Essential Oil to give your immune system a boost, especially if it’s already weakened from a prior illness or stress in your daily life.

Where Does Eucalyptus Oil Come From?

Although eucalyptus trees are now found all over the world, they originally came from Australia. As far back as thousands of years ago, different parts of the tree, including the leaves and the bark, were used by aboriginal natives to make various tools or remedies.

Eucalyptus oil comes from the oval-shaped leaves. To extract this essential oil, eucalyptus leaves are dried, then crushed and the oil is distilled from the powdery remains. The oil may be purified or strained several times to achieve the desired concentration or to mix the oil with different elements for a healing essential oil blend that's used through steam distillation in an essential oil diffuser/spray bottle or undiluted as a purifying massage oil.

Today, Australia is still home to over 700 different variations of the core eucalyptus tree phenotype. Eucalyptus trees are also commonly planted elsewhere around the world, though they require lots of water and can be dangerous to other plants if they're allowed to grow nearby. There are two common types of eucalyptus essential oil with the botanical names of eucalyptus globulus and eucalyptus radiata. Other varieties are eucalyptol and cineole that are made into eucalyptus essential oil by being combined with other ingredients.

How to Use Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Now that we’ve given you tons of reasons why to use Eucalyptus Essential Oil, here’s how to use it safely! This super pure and potent essential oil should be used sparingly to avoid irritation.

Most products on the market that contain Eucalyptus Essential Oil have their potency diluted in the formula, leaving a concentration of just 1-2% of active Eucalyptus Essential Oil. Without a carrier oil or diluting agent, it can leave drastic damage to your body.
