Does Trimming Hair Make it Grow Faster?

No, not really. Let's look at the facts. Since hair grows from the follicles present in the scalp and not at the ends, trimming off the dead, split ends does not affect the roots in any way. It's science, not magic. That said, you should not forego your regular trims because hair trimming does have its benefits, even if it does not result in faster hair growth. Hence, make sure to get regular trims every 4 to 6 weeks.

What Are the Benefits of Trimming Hair?

Trimming is beneficial for your hair because it removes split ends, which would, otherwise, slow hair growth by damaging the hair shaft. Split ends would also lead to breakage, thus preventing you from achieving your hair goals. So even though your hair will not necessarily grow faster post-cutting, it will grow at the usual, healthy rate. Plus, it will make your hair appear healthier and thicker because hair with split ends will always look thin and lifeless.

But there is more. Regular trimming will not only promote healthy hair growth, but also make your hair more manageable and easier to style and keep frizz under control.

What Can You Do to Make Your Hair Grow Faster?

Quite a few things, actually.

Say Yes to Scalp Massages

Start using techniques and products that promote blood circulation to the scalp. Studies have shown that when you massage your scalp with a hair oil with beneficial ingredients, your scalp will receive more nutrients and oxygen, which will make your hair grow faster.

Clean the Scalp

You have to start at the root (pun intended) if you want to promote healthy hair growth and make your hair grow faster. First off, your scalp goes through a lot - sebum secretion, product build-up, oxidative stress, and pollution. Hence, it becomes essential to make sure that your scalp is always clean. Otherwise, your scalp may get inflamed and lead to hair loss, thinning, and poor quality of hair growth.

To avoid that, ensure that you routinely wash your scalp. Again, instead of just applying the shampoo and washing it off, massage the scalp for a few moments. It will also ensure increased blood flow to the scalp.

Keep Your Scalp and Tresses Moisturized

Hair that lacks moisture looks dry and lifeless. It is also more prone to breakage. That is why you should ensure that your scalp is always moisturized. You can try using deep conditioning masks or homemade hair masks with moisturizing ingredients and see what works best for you.

Take a Break from Daily Hair Styling

If you are using heated styling tools on your hair every day, you should give it a break. Regular heat styling leads to the breakdown of the hydrogen bonds that form between the keratin proteins. Doing it frequently causes irreparable damage. However, if you absolutely need to use a heat styling tool, make sure to use a heat protectant.

Try Essential Oils

According to various studies, essential oils such as pumpkin seed oil, peppermint oil, or rosemary oil promote hair growth, so you can use them to make your hair grow faster. According to a study, peppermint oil showed a significant increase in dermal thickness, follicle number, and follicle depth, thereby promoting hair growth.

You only need 3 to 4 drops of any essential oil of your choice. Mix it with a carrier oil like jojoba oil or sweet almond oil since an essential oil is too potent on its own. Massage it on your scalp for 5 to 10 minutes, and you will start noticing the first results over the next few weeks.

Try Hair Supplements

Hair supplements can do wonders for your hair. Supplements that contain collagen and biotin can strenghten the hair follicles and they provide specific amino acids such as glycine, serine, cysteine, etc., that help make up keratin, the type of protein that makes up your hair and which is essential if you want to make your hair grow faster and stronger.

In fact, a study has shown that biotin deficiency potentially results in hair loss. So if you are experiencing excessive hair loss and thinning, you should consider giving supplements a try.

The Final Takeaway

Even though trimming your hair does not necessarily make it grow faster, regular trims are still essential. But if you do want to stimulate hair growth, you want to focus more on scalp care. And for that, we have two product recommendations for you:

You only need to use this brush when you are shampooing your hair, massage gently, and voila, your hair will love it.

You will only need about two to three pumps of this non-sticky, fast-absorbing oil, depending on your hair length and thickness.
